Look carefully at the two photos. What you see is a Striped Gopher, also known as a Ground Squirrel. I have not seen one in the yard for Years. I came around the end of the deck, caught some motion, turned very carefully and there he was.
Take a look at the photo on the right. Notice his cheeks are puffed out. He is gathering seeds for winter.
